System Checker

Find out if your PC can run Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper with our System Checker program. This small program is quick to use, and will give you detailed information on your PC.

Download the System Checker (for Windows 2000/XP, ZIP file, 244KB)

Usage Instructions

  1. Download the above ZIP file, and decompress it to the folder of your choice.
  2. There are two files – “Dynasty Warriors 4 System Checker.exe” and “checkdll.dll”. Please make sure both files are in the same directory.
  3. Double-click on “Dynasty Warriors 4 System Checker.exe” and the program will begin testing your computer.
  4. After a moment, the results screen will appear. Each portion of your PC will be graded as either Good, Pass, or Failed.
  5. If nothing says “Failed,” you should be able to run Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper without problems.

In Case of Failure

If any of the hardware options (CPU, Memory, Vertex Shader, etc.) come up as “Failed,” you will need to upgrade that hardware in order to run Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper.

If you fail on the DirectX Version or Windows Media Format portions, you can install that software when you install Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper (they are both included on the disc), or you can download the latest versions from the following sites:

DirectX

Windows Media Format

Troubleshooting

Installation Issues

The DVD-ROM is inserted into the drive, but nothing happens.

Depending on your Windows settings, the install program may not start automatically. If this is the case, start the install program manually by double-clicking the “My Computer” icon on your desktop, double-clicking the DVD drive, then double-clicking the “autorun.exe” file.

If you can’t access the disc, check the bottom of the disc and make sure it is not scratched, dirty, or otherwise damaged.

Installation failed midway through.

Sometimes virus scanners, screensavers, and other resident programs can interfere with software installation. Please close any such software and try again.

“No empty space” is displayed.

If there is not enough available space on your hard disk (around 2.4GB), you will not be able to install the game. Create enough space and try installing again.

Gameplay Issues

The game won’t run.

  1. Your computer may not have the necessary hardware or software to run this game. Please use our System Checker software to determine if you have any incompatibilities.
  2. You may not have updated versions of DirectX and Windows Media Format software. You can find that software on the Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper disc, or you can download the latest versions from the following sites:
    DirectX
    Windows Media Format
  3. Your video card drivers may be outdated. Please contact your video card maker to see if you have the latest drivers.

The game runs slowly.

You can improve the performance of the game by altering the graphics card settings in “Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper Configuration”:

  1. From the [Start] menu, select [All Programs] --> [Koei] --> [Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper] --> [Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper Configuration].
  2. In the [Graphics] tab, click [Defaults].
  3. Click [Save Settings] and [Close] to close the configuration screen.

If this doesn’t work, try closing other running applications (virus scanners, screensavers, etc.) to free up as much memory as possible.

There are graphical problems, such as animation issues, errors with dynamic shadows, freezing, etc.

This is most likely because you are using older video card drivers. Please contact your video card manufacturer and get the latest drivers for your card.

If that doesn’t work, your hardware may be incompatible with Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper. Please use our System Checker software to determine if your video card is compatible.

Another cause of freezing might be an error with your hard drive. There are several things you can do to check your hard drive, all of which can be accessed by double-clicking the “My Computer” icon, then right-clicking on your hard drive and selecting “Properties.” From here, you can use the Disk Cleanup, Error-checking, and Defragmentation options to diagnose or improve the performance of your hard drive.

Unfortunately, the game does not officially support CPUs other than Intel Pentium 4 processors, and the timing problems are likely related to your dual-core processor system. For assistance, please refer to Microsoft's support page regarding dual-core processors: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256

There are sound problems.

First, you should see if updated drivers for your soundcard are available. Contact your sound card manufacturer to get the latest drivers. Also, you should make sure to update your chipset (motherboard) drivers if possible.

If that doesn’t help, you can try lowering the acceleration level of your soundcard by changing the “Hardware Acceleration” option from “Full” to “None.” You can do this by accessing the following:

Windows XP

[Start] --> [Control Panel] --> [Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices] --> [Sound and Audio Devices] --> [Audio] tab --> [Advanced…] under [Sound playback] --> [Performance] tab

Windows 2000

[Start] --> [Settings] --> [Control Panel] --> [Sound and Multimedia] --> [Audio] tab --> [Play] under [Advanced] --> [Performance] tab
