I loved the way the characters looked in Dynasty Warriors 6 because I felt that a lot of the characters seemed to look like and wield more suitable weapons, like Yue Ying for instance, or how well Zhuge Liang looked and loved the renbu system and the levelling system, along with the new musou.

I think they should keep the designs the same in the next game personallyf or I found no fault on the appearence and feel of the Musou officers.

I said DW3 because seeing as though that was my favourite game out of he serie, the way KOEI designed them really captured not just there look but their personality too. I do like the DW6 ones but they are getting boring now for me ersonally, because playing DW6 and DW6:E all the alternate outfits you get are palette swaps not previous or new costumes, so thats why i didnt choose the dw6 ones. however there are sme god ones from DW2 and DW4 most preferably SSX- DW2 and Zhen Ji- DW4

I chose DW6. Love the fact they are in HD. I can definitely tell who's who and I love the designs in 6. Zhao Yun and Lu Bu's(The black armor is great), and a bunch of others are definite design keepers. Don't change them! I actually have no complaints for 6's character designs!

I also agree to keep these and just improve/add more to the gameplay for 7.

P.S. We need more generic Officer portraits Smiley (Currently playing DW6:Empires)

I really liked the Dynasty Warriors 6 costumes. I only briefly played DW4, and my exposure to DW5 was limited to the Orochi series, so I didn't have a strong attachment to any of the previous designs.

When DW6 came out and the character re-designs were revealed, I had no complaints about any of them, except maybe 1-2, which I will mention later. They all took on a fresh look that really went well with the upgrade to HD. I have since grown quite attached to them and plan to use the DW6 alternate outfits when playing the upcoming WO2 for PSP.

The exceptions to this are Xiahou Yuan because I don't particularly care for his excessive & exposed bellyhair laugh and Zhang He because I really wasn't that fond of his leather outfit ... his DW5 costume was much better by comparison. Those are really my only gripes, and really not that significant, but other than that DW6 designs are much better overall.

I voted DW5. Mainly for my two favorite characters of Ma Chao and SSX.

Sun Shang Xiang, well its obvious. She goes from being a sexy tomboy in 5 to a  clown/fairy.

Ma Chao's DW5 outfit was just epic with the dragon armor(too much of it in 3) and the white mane. The headpiece is weird in dw6 and its rather generic for the rest of him.

Some characters were good in DW6. But mainly DW5 had it all.

If we're strictly talking character designs, which is costumes, I have to vote for DW4. Those were the best mesh of realistic warrior costumes and modern fun fantasy games. I also liked 5 a lot, but Lu Xun in 4 just wins it over for me.

I like the weapons in 6, and a lot of the costumes, but Wu will never stop looking like a circus overall. Lu Xun and SSX are just... no thanks. Too ridiculous and I start to wonder if I'm still playing something based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

I picked Dynasty Warriors 4. The character designs were less modern and looked more traditional.

The armors and designs in DW6 looked way too much like the armor used in Dragonball Z and in other Roman/Greek games. Some of the outfits were also kind of rugged looking for Lu Meng and Huang Zhong making them look like bums and barbarians.

The hair was the other problem. It just looked too modern and spikey.

The markings on the faces were also unusual, specially for Zhang He and Dian Wei.

Also what happened to Wei Yan? He looks like an alligator monster from Power Rangers.

It's difficult for me to pick an overall favorite game, but I can share my thoughts on the DW6 costumes.

My favorite DW6 designs are cohesive, with a distinctive overall effect well-suited to the character. Huang Zhong's attire makes him look as if he's been training on a mountain for the past decade - perfect for a self-motivated old guy who takes pride in the ability he learned through arduous experience. With his subdued robes and loose ponytail, Lu Meng appears scholarly, wise, and down to earth.

My most disliked designs take a sharp departure from the characterizations I was fond of in previous games. Sun Quan may be younger than Ce, but he was the emperor of Wu for many years. I preferred the previous costumes that emphasized Quan's serious, dignified side with ruler's robes, a hat, and a full beard. In DW6, Quan is Ce's blow-dried little brother. Over the years, Sun Shang Xiang has gone from a tomboy to a squeaky fairy princess. Gan Ning's older designs are far better suited to his rough and tumble nature. His DW6 costume may be appropriately flashy, but it comes off as more J-rocker than ex-pirate.

Some of the costumes are nifty in concept and might work well for some other personality. In their entirety, they don't fit the character as well as they could. Yue Ying's outfit would be cute on a woman who hadn't already been established as a well-prepared fighter with her armored battle dresses from the previous games. Cao Ren's heavy armor is in character, but his eye paint is a huge downgrade. The original tear-shaped markings were both tough and somber, reflecting Ren's attitude on the necessary evils of war. Now, he seems grumpy and hung over. The dark eyes look cool in the concept drawings, but they don't fit with Ren himself.

The DW6 costumes have a trend of favoring over-the-topness above historical influence. Previous games' designs always had a mix of feasible and fantasy, but the creative liberties were more toned down. I prefer more subdued and/or "accurate" looks, especially for characters whose personalities come off as believable interpretations of their historical selves. However, DW6's designs were a great basis for the glorious outlandishness of Strikeforce.

I chose Dynasty Warriors 6. I could discuss for hours many things that I may or may not have liked about the game, but the one thing I did not mind at all were the character designs. For the most part I was very impressed, granted a few characters were still unappealing to me (Dian Wei, Pang Tong, and Wei Yan for example.) The one thing that I liked about DW6 was that it made me look at a few of the characters that always came off as average to me in a new light. Characters like Xiahou Dun, Sun Ce, Sun Jian, Huang Zhong, and Taishi Ci. Appearance wise those characters blew me away, where previous versions never really did that. Beyond getting into the depths of the clones/movesets I would also like to say that for the most part I liked most of the characters weapons as well. Loved Taishi Ci's original DW6 Halberd, would like to see it return one day.

Let me just say this, I personally liked much of the Dynasty Warriors 6 rosters designs. But by no means does that mean I liked every character, nor does that mean that I don't want to see changes. Even on some of the characters designs that I liked I could obviously find something that could or even should change. I give my props to Koei for DW6's designs again because it made me see some of the characters in a different way, while not making me absolutely hate others.

In the end, I still look for changes come the next game. I merely want to see how much the current designs will effect the future games.

I voted for dw 4, though I would have switched it to dw 3 or 2 had more characters been there.  I liked the more traditional, less out-landish style that they had.  It was a much more serious game, and I appreciated that greatly.  I would love to see a more gritty, realistic portrayal of the characters and events.. or at least for most of the characters.  Let Pang Tong and Zhang He stay comic relief.

Had to do with DW2 since after playing Dynasty Warriors on the PlayStation this is the first real chance you get to see them in a non fighter game and into the basic hack and slash game DW is now.

With that said, I hate just about everything in regards to the character designs they did with DW6:Empires (don’t have DW6 but guess it’s the same) with all the weapon changes and the cloning of a few characters. Even the create a character as good as it is with what we can do is a bit lacking in a lot of areas. Only 3 face choices? The outfits everyone wore are as good as in previous games just like how the voices are again missing the Japanese option.

Lets take a look at Lu Bu for example,  historically he has a Ji (halberd) and is supposed to be a master archer. Well since there are no bows in the game other than with Sun Shang Xiang (who is another problem in a long list) as well as the removal of the bow as a secondary weapon I can almost let that slide since in the DW games he never used one anyway to my recall. But to switch it to some lame looking dual star looking weapon thing is beyond bad. Also, he is also supposed to be the biggest bad  of the era or at least in the top 3 and in what I’ve seen of him he sucks when you fight against him with at least a created character. My nephew took him out 4 times with very little problem in a single 30 minute battle a few days back and I just sat there shaking my head and wondering what else is messed up in the game.

With what I’ve seen on JUST the weapon changes alone, I would seriously reconsider even looking at DW7 when or if it came out. If Koei, Omega Force or whoever is responsible on this wants to mess around and get creative with weapons then do it in another game series please or better yet add more characters to the game who are not mentioned in Romance of the Three Kingdoms as having any type of weapon of choice or ever being in combat.

The outfits for the create a character and the downloadable outfits are pretty cool and I would love to see more of them as well as being able to use them for the in game characters. Having multiple colors for the in game characters would have been better if you could choose them at the character select at the beginning of your game instead of having to go into battle.
