Takeda announced that he was prepared to abandon his futile battle, but no reply came from Uesugi. Before long, the battle had begun.
Uesugi spotted the meager fire rising from the Takeda camp. At that moment, he realized that Takeda was planning a surprise attack, and commanded his troops to ascend Mt. Saijo. By the time Sanada reached Mt. Saijo, the Takeda encampment was but a shell. Sensing danger, they began to retreat.
But it was too late. Uesugi, having successfully circled behind Takeda, destroyed the Takeda stronghold before Sanada was able to return.
