First you create your new officer. Choose a model, and give it a name. You will cultivate your new officer’s abilities during a series of “Training” minigames. Characters strengths will change greatly depending upon how you raise them, so it’s worth your time to consider what kind of warrior you want to create. There are 7 training events in all. See how many enemies you can defeat within a fixed time in “Melee.” Avoid taking on enemy arrow attacks in “Deflect.” Then, choose your weapon: sword, spear, or naginata. The weapon you choose will impact your abilities as well. And be sure to listen well to the instructions of your master.

After clearing one training exercise, you will receive an evaluation. A “Fair” ranking is acceptable, but try not to earn a ranking of “Poor.” After receiving your ranking, you will move on to the next training exercise. Complete 12 of these exercises to determine your initial abilities. But the process doesn’t end there. After the training exercises, your skills will be put to the test in the Trials of Acceptance. The trials are conducted by 9 clans in all, including the Oda, Takeda, and Uesugi, and the events are different depending upon the clan’s traditions. Similar to the training exercises, the Trials of Acceptance are a series of minigames, in which you strive toward certain goals, and by achieving them you earn the right to join the ranks of the Samurai Warriors. You can create up to 15 New Officers. If you fail, all of your hard work will come to nothing. Indeed, the warrior’s journey is long and arduous.

Train your new character with care, and you will develop a strong bond with it. When you’ve made it through the Trials, you can test your New Officer in Free Mode. At that time, your new officer’s weapons will be determined by your abilities. Think hard about what weapon you should use. Then, your new officer’s original story will be waiting for you in Story mode
